"Stress is not only psychological. Long before conscious thought, the body has already shifted into a defensive physiological state. When the nervous system is caught in a stress response, clear thinking becomes significantly harder. The Raban Method teaches practical regulation of the nervous system through breath, physiology, and structured awareness — helping people restore clarity and resilience under pressure."

The Raban Method — The Clinical Basis

How It Works

A three-step method.
Sequenced by physiology.

Each step builds on what precedes it. The sequence is not a design preference — it follows from how the nervous system actually works under pressure.

1
Step 1 — Calm the Body
Calm the Body
Most people under sustained pressure shift to shallow, chest-driven breathing — which actively keeps the nervous system in threat mode rather than relieving it. Step 1 corrects this at a mechanical level: restoring diaphragmatic breathing directly stimulates the vagus nerve, the body's primary pathway out of the stress response. This is the physical foundation everything else depends on.
2
Step Two
Break the Mental Stress Cycle
Once physiological baseline is restored, the mind is still running. The mental stress cycle (the self-amplifying pattern of rejection and brooding that turns a situation into experienced suffering) does not stop on its own. Step 2 applies targeted breathing and attention techniques to interrupt this loop directly, withdrawing fuel from the cycle and returning cognitive control to the person.
3
Step Three
Strategic Analysis and Pattern Resolution
With the nervous system neutralised and the mental cycle interrupted, cognitive clarity returns. Step 3 uses a structured diagnostic process to identify not just the immediate source of stress, but the recurring patterns and underlying perceptions that keep generating it. Participants are guided through a step-by-step framework: what is actually happening, why it is landing with the force that it is, what action to take now, and what longer-term pattern to address at the root. The goal is not insight alone but execution: grounded decisions in the current situation, and a clearer map of what to work on over time.

The Physics of Stress —
A First-Hand Look at the Method and the Presenter.

This video offers a direct impression of David and the Method in action, combining selected moments from the keynote "The Physics of Stress" with real session highlights. It is designed to give a clear sense of tone, pace, and practical delivery in live environments.

Beyond the content itself, it shows how the work is actually experienced — because in this kind of training, the fit with the person and approach is as important as the material.

About David Raban

The person
behind the method.

I'm David Raban, PhD in Astrophysics from Leiden University. Over the past 15+ years, I've built a career across space systems engineering, entrepreneurship, company digitization, data science, and AI. Alongside this, I've maintained a long-standing personal practice in mindfulness and meditation, which began over 25 years ago in India.

During COVID, I recognised a gap: when external coping mechanisms disappear, most people lack the internal tools to manage stress effectively. I created a meditation and resilience programme within my organisation that grew into a structured series of workshops and lectures reaching over 1,500 participants.

What distinguishes my work is simple: I don't just teach these techniques — I demonstrate them. My sessions combine clear explanation with real-time application.

Who This Is For

Two entry points.
One underlying need.

E
Event Organisers

Looking to create a meaningful and engaging event experience that is both energising and quietly impactful. The keynote combines accessible science with a live demonstration, giving audiences practical tools they can take with them immediately. It can stand alone as a strong session or be paired with a workshop to deepen the experience.

T
HR and L&D Leaders

Focused on building sustainable resilience across teams and departments. The keynote and the workshop are designed to work together or separately, depending on need. The keynote creates shared understanding and engagement, while the workshop or 4-Week Deep Dive translates that into structured, measurable skill development over time with strong retention built in.

Most organisations start with the keynote — it works as a standalone session and as a natural entry point into the deeper programme.
